Why we created WE4U

How it started

At the beginning of October 2018, the lives of Josine and Jochen changed completely. Jochen was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer, along with two spinal cord injuries. Everything suddenly stood still, while normal life went on. Their four children had school, sports, and playdates. Josine kept working. And food, laundry, and housework didn't stop either. Already in the first week, she decided she didn't have to do it alone. But when people asked what they could do to help, she didn't really know.

That was when Josine promised herself: if Jochen gets better, I will make an app for this. Exactly the way I would have wanted it myself.

After three weeks in the hospital and more than two months at Rijndam, Jochen returned home. At the end of March 2019 came the news they had hoped for: Jochen was cancer-free. Six months later, the wheelchair and walker were no longer needed, and he was working full-time again as a journalist. In June 2024, Jochen and Josine celebrated Jochen being cancer-free for five years with their children, family, and friends. Josine kept her promise to herself. The We4U app now exists and is used in all kinds of situations. Currently, they use We4U themselves mainly to let grandpas and grandmas indicate when they can babysit. And their network stands ready whenever help is needed.
